This program consists of several homes, staffed with overnight staff and daytime staffing which is appropriate and applicable to the support needs of the individuals accessing services.
The program and services provided are developed on an individual basis through the development of Individual Lifestyle Plans. As much as possible, peer matches are made to find compatible roommates for each person. The homes are based throughout Edmonton, and are designed for 3 or 4 Individuals living together.
Community inclusion is emphasized by providing for community outings, recreational and leisure activities, and use of public transportation wherever possible. Currently there are 8 facilities in Edmonton, serving up to 26 Individuals.
This program provides alternatives to traditional group living provided in our Shared Living (Residential Support) Program. The focus of this program is to provide an alternative for Individuals to live in an environment which supports their development and growth within a homelike atmosphere.
The Supports are provided by Agency sub-contractors. For the most part, Individuals are provided with a place to live usually within a supportive family home, and provided the necessary supports to thrive within the setting and the community. The Supportive Roommate aspect, provides the necessary developmental supports and growth in a less “family – like” setting and on more of a “friend or roommate” basis.
All the supports are intended to assist the Individual in learning skills to allow them as much independence and community inclusion as possible, while providing for their safety and security in their daily living. There are over 70 Individuals accessing services through this program.
